The Alexander Technique will help you relieve bodily tensions in whichever activity you are engaged in. It helps find a deep awareness of how we use our body, and through this deep awareness, and with the teacher’s guidance, you will be able to consciously make a choice about how to proceed in your activities. From infancy we adjust to our world, our surroundings, to the people in our world and situations. We learn how to be in the world according to our experiences and how we unconsciously adapt and adjust to them. We develop emotional and body patterns of using our whole self. These unconscious habits probably helped us cope with the world, but eventually they show up as tensions and pain.
The Alexander Technique helps you identify these patterns of use, and provides the possibility of changing them. It is a hands-on, non-manipulative work. Students of the technique report a feeling of lightness, of ease in their being and in their activities. Feeling more “centered”, happier and more open to the world. All this is easy to understand: when we learn to live without unwanted, automatic reactions and tensions, there is space for a new way of being in the world, both emotionally and physically; our body-mind, our psycho-physical whole can begin to open up, and we are ready to explore who we really are.
